MakorBooks (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform, including Makor Studio (Sermon to Book and Idea to Book), the Bookstore, and all related services.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Name, email address, phone number, and country of residence when you create an account
- Profile information including role (reader, author, or service provider) and denomination preferences
- Sermon audio files, transcripts, and notes uploaded to Sermon to Book
- Interview responses and answers you provide to Idea to Book
- Cover design briefs, including mood, colour preference, and reference notes, when you request a book cover
- Book manuscripts, cover designs, and metadata uploaded to Bookstore
- Payment information processed through our secure third-party payment processors
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our services
- Process transactions and send related information
- Send technical notices, updates, and support messages
- Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
- Monitor and analyse trends, usage, and activities
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
- With your explicit, per-book consent given during submission, promote your book's cover image, title, and author name on our official social media channels and other marketing materials, see Section 4 of our Terms of Service for details
4. Content Ownership and Copyright
You retain 100% ownership and copyright of all content you upload to MakorBooks, including sermon recordings, manuscripts, book content, and creative works. We do not claim any ownership rights over your content. We process your content solely for the purpose of providing our services to you, except for the optional marketing use of your book cover described above, which only occurs where you have separately consented.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the security of your personal information using industry-standard security practices.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
MakorBooks uses browser local storage, not third-party advertising cookies, to keep you signed in, remember preferences such as your selected currency or country, and support core site functionality. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. If this changes, we will update this policy accordingly.
7. Data Retention
We retain your account information and content for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account through your dashboard settings, your personal account data, purchase history, sermon audio, transcripts, and unpublished drafts are permanently and immediately removed and cannot be recovered.
Two categories of information are retained beyond account deletion, for the reasons noted below:
- Financial transaction records (sales, payouts, and platform fees) are retained in a de-identified form, no longer linked to your name or account, as required for accounting, tax, and legal compliance.
- If you are an author, books you have already published and sold remain available to readers who purchased them. We cannot retroactively remove access to content a reader has already bought, so your name may remain associated with those specific books as the original author even after your account and profile are deleted.
8. Third-Party Services
We may share your information with third-party vendors and service providers who perform services on our behalf, including:
- Payment processing: Paystack and Flutterwave (payment details and transaction amounts)
- AI-assisted content processing: Anthropic and OpenAI (sermon transcripts, interview responses, and manuscript text, used to generate and screen your book) and AssemblyAI (sermon and interview audio, used for transcription)
- Email delivery: Resend (your name and email address, to send account and transactional emails)
These third parties are contractually obligated to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access, update, or delete your account information at any time
- Request a copy of your personal data we hold
- Withdraw consent for data processing where consent is the legal basis
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
